The Unknown Noise Device is an experimental instrument that was born from the imagination of an avid visualizer and listener and developed to produce sound from light. It works by using a light source to create variations in the intensity of a beam of light, visible and invisible lights of different frequencies like laser beams, tube lights, mobile phones, and flashlights.
To play, the performer moves the light source around the instrument sensor, creating variations in the signal. The performer can control the sound by adjusting the position of the light source and can create a wide range of musical styles, from ambient to experimental, also used as a generative music device. This creates a unique and ever-changing soundscape that responds to the movements and changes in light around it in real time, adding a layer of visual interest to the experience. It is a unique sound art experience that encourages experimentation and interaction with every space and that combines technology, art, and science in unexpected ways.
