1 m² is a site-specific installation that exchanges two 1 × 1-meter square pieces of land. One piece is taken from the race track turf and another one is created to represent the paved road. They are placed in each other's respective locations — so that each occupies the other's place. The two squares share the same dimensions, but embody very different materials, functions and histories. The work questions how value is assigned to land. Which social and cultural differences as well as time, labour, demand, and power shape our understanding of a space.
